In 1809, Workman moved with his parents and siblings--including David, John, and Stephen--to Bourbon County, Kentucky. In 1819, William married Sarah Bilyeu, and in 1829 he moved his family to western Sangamon County, Illinois, where he resided for the rest of his life. Workman was a farmer; in 1850, he owned $5,000 worth of real estate.
