Located in southern Wisconsin, twelve miles north of Beloit, Janesville is the county seat of Rock County. The county experienced violence during the Black Hawk War in 1832, and in 1833 the area was first surveyed. Janesville was established in 1835 and incorporated as a city in 1853.
