The city of Springfield is located twenty-three miles northeast of Dayton, in west central Ohio. The first white settlers in the vicinity of what would become Springfield came from Kentucky in 1799, and the village was platted two years later. When Clark County was organized by the Ohio General Assembly in 1818, Springfield was made the county seat. The location was incorporated as a town in 1827 and as a city in 1850.
