Located in east central Illinois approximately eighteen miles from Peoria, Princeville is a village in Peoria County. Originally home to the Pottawatomie and Kickapoo Indian nations, the area that would become Princeville began to see white settlers after the War of 1812. In 1822, Daniel Prince became the first white settler to live among the Native Americans. White settlers continued to migrate to the region, which came to known as Prince's Grove. In June 1837, settlers surveyed and platted the original village, naming it Princeville after Daniel Prince.
