1Abraham Lincoln wrote the date, his name, and his city of residence in the register of the Delavan House, a hotel in Delavan, Illinois. Lincoln was likely in route to Metamora, Illinois, where he was present to argue a case in the Woodford County Circuit Court on September 14.
