AN ACT to provide for the Election of Justices of the Peace and Constables therein
named.
1Two justices districts created in the town of Alton, Madison county.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the town of Lower Alton, in the county of Madison, as defined by the corporate boundaries thereof, be, and
the same is hereby constituted a district for the election of two Justices of the
Peace and two Constables.
Election, where to be held.
Sec. 2. The county commissioners’ court of said county of Madison, is hereby authorized and required to cause an election to be held on the first Monday
in August next, and at each quadrennial election for Justices of the Peace and Constables
thereafter, for two Justices of the Peace and two Constables in said district, and
the officers so elected shall have and exercise the same jurisdiction, hold their
offices by the same tenure, and be under the same regulations, in all respects, as
other Justices of the Peace and Constables in this State.
Certain justices districts created in Green county.
Sec. 3. The county commissioners’ court of Green county is hereby authorized to cause a Special Election to be held at White Hall for one Justice of the Peace and one Constable, on the fifteenth day of March next,
to be conducted according to the provisions of “an act to provide for the election
of Justices of the Peace and Constables,” and the said Justices of the Peace and Constables,
when elected, shall hold their offices until the next general election to be held
by the provisions of the above recited act.2 The north half of section two, in township eleven north, range twelve west, and the
south half of section thirty-five, in township twelve north, and range twelve west,
shall constitute a district for the election of one Justice of the Peace and one Constable,
until the boundaries of the same shall be changed by the county commissioners’ court of said county.

1Jesse B. Thomas Jr. introduced HB 175, originally titled, "A Bill Making the Town of Lower Alton a District for the Election of Two Justices of the Peace and Two Constables," in
the House of Representatives on January 28, 1835. The House referred it to a select committee. On January 29,
the select committee reported back the bill with an amendment, in which the House
concurred. The House passed the bill on February 2, amending the title by adding
“and also for the Election of One Justice of the Peace and One Constable at White Hall in Greene County.” On February 9, the Senate passed the bill, amending the title so as to read “A Bill to Provide for the Election
of Justices of the Peace and Constables, therein Named.” The House concurred in the
amended title on February 11. On February 12, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
