Commissioners to view and relocate road.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That Henry Snyder, John Lee and Elisha Freeman, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to view and re-locate that part of the State road leading from Paris, in Edgar county, to Decatur in Macon county, which lies between the bridge across west Okaw, and the town of Decatur.
When and where to meet.
To take an oath
Sec. 2. Said commissioners shall meet at the town of Decatur on the first Wednesday in April
next, or within sixty days thereafter, and after taking an oath before some justice of the peace faithfully and impartially
to discharge the duties enjoined on them by this act, shall commence at the east end
of the main east and west street, and locate said road on the most suitable ground
from the end of said street, to the bridge across the Sangamon river, at or near Allen’s and Read’s mills, and from said bridge on the nearest and best
route, to the bridge across west Okaw.
To cause a survey or plat lodged with clerk of county com.
Sec. 3. S[aid] commissioners shall within twenty days after said locat[ion] cause a survey or plat of said road to be lodged with [the] clerk of the county commissioners court for Macon county, and [the s]aid road is hereby declared a State road, and shall be op[en]ed and kept in repair in the same manner as all other State roads; and the county commissioners court of Macon county, shall allow said reviewers a reasonable compensation for their services.
Part of road vacated.
Sec. 4. That so much of the old State road, as lies between Decatur and the bridge across the west Okaw is hereby vacated.
This act to take effect and be in force from and after its passage.2

1On December 14, 1836, William G. Reddick presented to the House of Representatives a petition from citizens of Macon County requesting that the part of the state road from Decatur to Paris as lies in Macon County be relocated. The House referred the petition to a select
committee. On December 17, Reddick, speaking on behalf of the select committee, reported
HB 4 in the House. On December 29, the House amended the bill by adding the last sentence.
