AN ACT to amend the act incorporating the Springfield and Alton Turnpike Road Company.

Turnpike road may be extended
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the Springfield and Alton Turnpike Road Company, incorporated by an act, entitled “An act to incorporate the Springfield and Alton Turnpike Road Company,” approved March 1st, 1833, are hereby authorized and empowered to extend the road contemplated by said act from Springfield, in Sangamon county, to Bloomington, in McLean county. The said extended part to be in all respects subject to the provisions of the aforesaid act, and any and all acts subsequently made by way of amendment or supplement to the same.2

1On February 13, 1837, George Maxwell introduced SB 190, originally titled, "An Act to Encourage the Circulation of Money," in the Senate. The Senate referred the bill to a select committee. The select committee reported back the bill on February 20 with an amendment, in which the Senate concurred. On February 21, the Senate passed the bill as amended, amending the title so as to read “A Bill to Amend the ‘Act Incorporating the Springfield and Alton Turnpike Road Company.’” On February 27, the House of Representatives passed the bill. On March 2, the Council of Revision approved the bill, and the act became law.

2The incorporation act had authorized the company to built a turnpike road from Springfield, Illinois, to a point on the Mississippi River in St. Clair County, Illinois, across from St. Louis, Missouri. The General Assembly further amended and supplemented this act of incorporation with an two acts, one enacted in 1839, and one enacted in 1841.
