To the Honorable the Senate and the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois:
The undersigned citizens of the county of Peoria, humbly represent, that by authority of an act entitled “an act to locate a State road from Stephenson to Peoria,” approved 7th of February, 1837, a State road was marked and located from Stephenson, in Rock-Island county to Peoria, in Peoria county, and that so much of said road as lies between the said Stephenson and the point where the said road crosses the North line or boundary of Township ten North of Range seven East, in the county of Peoria, is as we believe located, according to the directions of said act, “on the best and most advantageous ground for a permanent road,” but that so much of said road as lies between the point where it crosses the said North boundary line of Township ten North, seven East, and the said town of Peoria is located on ground, where it will be impracticable ever to make a good road without vast expense, the route in one place for nearly a mile being in a slough, in another place it runs in a zigzag course two miles and crosses the Kickapoo creek at a bad place for building a bridge, when the same

distance might have been obtained by a direct course of one mile, crossing the Kickapoo about forty rods higher up where a bridge might be built at half of the expense, that would be required at its present location, and that in other respects the said part of said road does not follow the best and most advantageous route either for travellers, or for those owning lands and living upon it and near it, but that a far better route may be selected. And as some doubts have arisen whether the commissioners, who laid out said State road have proceeded in all respects strictly and technically legal according to the “Act to locate a State road from Stephenson to Peoria”, Therefore we the undersigned pray, that an act may be passed establishing and confirming ^the location of^ so much of said State road as lies between Stephenson and the point where as now located, it crosses the Northern boundary line of Township ten North of Range seven East, vacating the remainder of the route and granting a resurvey and relocation of the said State road from Peoria to the said North line of Township ten North seven East. And your petitioners will ever pray &c.[et cetera]
