An act to authorize Thomas B. Talcott and others to establish a Ferry across Rock river.

Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That Thomas B. Talcott and his associates, and their heirs and assigns, be, and they are hereby authorized to establish and maintain a ferry across Rock river at their landing in Pecatonica, section 24 T.[Township] 46. N.[North] R.[Range] 1. E.[East] in the county of Winebago, for and during the term of ten years from and after the passage of this act.
Sec. 2. When said ferry is established, it shall and may be lawful for the said Thomas B. Talcott and his associates, their heirs and assigns to demand and receive, from all persons crossing said ferry, for and during the term aforesaid, the following rates of ferriage, to wit, For each four wheeled waggon drawn by two horses or oxen sixty two and a half cents, and for each additional animal by which the same is drawn six and one fourth cents; for the same when unloaded fifty cents and the like sum of six and one fourth cents for each additional animal; for each waggon or carriage drawn by one horse or ox thirty seven and an half cents, for each single horse and rider twelve and a half cents

for each head of horses or neat cattle not in team six and a fourth cents, sheep goats, or hogs per score fifty cents. Provided, always, that no person attending the county commissioner’s court or Circuit courts, as a member or Judge thereof, or as a party to any matter pending in, or any witness or juror attending on, said courts shall be taxed ferriage for crossing.
Sec. 3. The ferry hereby granted shall be in all respects governed by the act entitled “An act to provide for the establishing of ferries, toll bridges, and turnpike Roads” approved Feby.[February] 12. 1827. as amended January 22. 1829, except as herein provided.

1On December 20, 1839, Germanicus Kent in the House of Representatives presented the petition of Thomas B. Talcott, requesting authority to build a ferry across Rock River. The House referred the petition to the Committee on State Roads. In response to this petition, William B. Archer of the Committee on State Roads introduced HB 123 in the House on January 15, 1840. The House passed the bill on January 27. The House reported the bill’s passage to the Senate, but the latter took no action.
