An ACT to amend “An act authorizing the county commissioners’ court to construct certain roads in Greene county.”

Com’rs[Commissioners] to review roads.
Proviso.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the county commissioners of Greene county may, if in their opinion the public good requires it, appoint three suitable persons, as commissioners to review and relocate so much of the roads leading from White Hall and Carrollton, to Newport, on the Illinois river, as runs on the land of Stephen W. Spencer: Provided, That no change shall take place in said roads until the said Spencer shall at his own expense, make all that part of said road, so changed, and until the same is accepted by the county commissioners of said county.

Sec. 2. If the said commissioners shall report against such change, the said Spencer shall pay all the expense of said review.

1On January 30, 1841, David M. Woodson in the House of Representatives presented the petition of citizens of Greene County, in relation to roads. The House referred the petition to a select committee. In response to this petition, Woodson of the aforesaid select committee introduced HB 243 in the House on February 15. The House referred the bill to another select committee. The select committee reported back the bill on February 23 with amendments, in which the House concurred. The House passed the bill as amended on February 25. The Senate concurred on February 27. On February 27, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
