Whereas Calvin Gold on the 9th day of January 1832 purchased of the Cashier of the Branch of the old state Bank of Illinois at Shawneetown the S. E[South East] quarter of section 34 in town 9 S[South] of Range 9. E.[East]2 at and for the sum of four hundred and twenty Dollars, which land was sold by said
Cashier as the property of the State.
and whereas at the July Term 1838, of the Gallatin Circuit Court, the said Gold was ^evicted^ from said land in a certain action of Ejectment, brought on the demise of Timothy Guard under a permanent title
Therefore.
Sec[Section] 1st. Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois represented in the General assembly,
That the Auditor of Public accounts, be and he is hereby directed to draw his warrant
on the Treasurer in favor of the said Gold, for the sum of Five hundred and twenty three dollars and fifty four cents, which
shall be in full for the claim of said Gold against the state on account of the premises.
Provided that said auditor shall compute interest on the above sum from the ninth
of January Eighteen hundred and thirty five ^Six^ till the issueing said warrant, at the rate of six per centum per annum3

1Adam W. Snyder of the Committee on the Judiciary, to which the Senate had referred the petition of Calvin Gold, introduced SB 207 in the Senate on February 16, 1841. On February 18, the Senate
referred the bill to the Committee on the Judiciary. The Committee on the Judiciary
reported back the bill with an amendment, in which the Senate concurred. The Senate
passed the bill as amended. On February 23, the House of Representatives referred the bill to the Committee on Finance, of which Abraham Lincoln was a member. The Committee on Finance reported back the bill on February 27, and
the House discharged it from further consideration. The House took no further action.
