An ACT to amend the several acts to extend the corporate powers of the town of Peoria.

Powers of trustees
Proviso.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the trustees of the town of Peoria, be, and they are hereby authorized and empowered to cut down, widen, grade, or otherwise alter or remove that portion of the embankment of the Peoria and Warsaw railroad, which is situated on Water street, in said town of Peoria, extending from the public landing to the lower side of Hudson street in saidtown, in such manner as they deem best to accommodate public travel on said Water street: Provided, That said trustees, or their successors, shall restore the said embankment to its present condition whenever the same shall be needed for the use of the State or companies, or shall pay such sum as the State or company shall expend upon the same.2

1On December 28, 1840, John Hamlin introduced the SB 72 in the Senate. On January 12, 1841, the Senate passed the bill. On January 21, the House of Representatives referred the bill to the Committee on Internal Improvements. On February 6, the committee reported back the bill with several amendments, in which the House concurred. On February 12, the House passed the bill as amended. On February 27, the Senate concurred in the House’s amended version of the bill. On February 27, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.

2On February 6, 1841, the House of Representatives amended the bill by adding the proviso. The General Assembly extended the corporate powers of the town of Peoria with an act passed on February 21, 1837, with an act passed on July 20, 1837, and with an act passed on February 26, 1839.
