In 1820, Foutch married Elizabeth Vansickle in Indiana, and in 1825 they settled in Springfield, Illinois where for many years Foutch served as a justice of the peace. In 1849, Foutch left Springfield and moved to Polk County, Iowa, where he worked as a farmer.
