Also in 1838, he was appointed treasurer of the Board of County Commissioners, a position he held until 1839 and later from 1847 to 1851. Hamlin married Elizabeth Fulton in December 1843. In 1850, he was a notary public and owned $4,000 in real property. He was a Mason.
