John Hoxworth, farmer, spent his first eighteen years in his native Pennsylvania, then relocated with his family to Franklin County, Ohio. Hoxworth moved to Illinois in 1847, ultimately settling in Knox County. In 1860, Hoxworth was living with his family in Maquon Township in Knox County and owned $3,400 in personal and real property. He married Rachel Peters in 1842 and the pair had nine children. Politically, Hoxworth was a Democrat.
