Hussey, William S.

At the age of ten, Hussey moved from Ohio to Sangamon County, Illinois, with his parents and siblings. In 1832, he enlisted in the Illinois militia to fight in the Black Hawk War. In 1834, he married Sarah Yocum, with whom he had seven children. In 1850, Hussey was a farmer in Sangamon County, and he owned $13,000 worth of real estate. In 1851, he moved his family by overland trail to Oregon, where Sarah died the following year. William re-married in 1855 to Jemima Gilbreath, with whom he had two children in Oregon. In 1860, Hussey was employed as a merchant in McMinnville, Oregon, and he owned $8,200 worth of real estate and $4,000 worth of personal property. In 1864, Hussey moved his family back to Sangamon County, settling in Williamsville. Politically, Hussey was a Republican. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
