Jones, Samuel (of Logan County, IL)

Samuel Jones, a farmer, married Susanna Charlotte Tanner in 1836 in McLean, Illinois and the couple had at least eight children before Susanna's death prior to 1860. In 1858, Samuel and his son James—who was about 21 years old at the time—were convicted in Logan County Circuit Court for stealing five hogs worth $10. They were sentenced to a year in the penitentiary but were released a month later after being pardoned by Governor William H. Bissell.
