Hailing from the Kingdom of Würtemberg, Christopher F. Koch emigrated to the United States in 1834, settling in Peoria County, Illinois, in 1838. In November 1839, he married Rosina S. Schochermier. By 1844, he was an innkeeper at Tontine House on Water Street between Main and Fulton streets. In 1850, he owned real estate valued at $4,500.
