Hailing from the town of Ludwigsburg in the Kingdom of Würtemberg, Rosina S. Schochermier emigrated to the United States in 1833, settling in Peoria County, Illinois, in 1838. In November 1839, she married Christopher F. Koch. In 1860, she was living in Peoria's Third Ward and owned real estate valued at $12,000 and had a personal estate of $500. In 1861, she was a widow living at 232 Perry Street.
