Wright, John
Flourished: Sangamon County, Illinois
Wright was an early settler in Sangamon County, Illinois, arriving there before 1830. He amassed huge tracts of public lands in what would become Logan and Menard counties. One of his tracts of land, near Rocky Ford in what became Logan County, seemed an ideal location for a new town, and in 1836, Abraham Lincoln surveyed and laid out the proposed new town of Albany. In 1848, Lincoln & Herndon represented Wright in a lawsuit against Robert T. McNeely.
