The select committee to which was refered the petition of sundry citizens of Johnson county praying that the Legislature may Memorialize Congress to appropriate make a a donation of land to improve the navigation of Cache river report the following Resolution viz:
“Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of Illinois that our Senators in Congress be instructed and our Representatives requested to use their exertions to procure a donation of land, on Cache river in Johnson & Alexander counties, by the General Government, to the value of $2500, to improve the navigation of said river”

1On January 28, 1835, John Oliver in the House of Representatives presented a petition from citizens of Johnson County asking for the improvement of navigation on the Cache River. The House referred the petition to a select committee. Oliver from the select committee introduced the resolution in the House on February 3. The House adopted the resolution, and the Senate concurred on the same day. On February 7, the House and Senate sent the resolution to Governor Joseph Duncan. On February 23, Congressman John Reynolds presented this resolution to the U.S. House of Representatives, where it was referred to the Committee on Roads and Canals.
