Resolved; by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring herein) that our Senators in Congress, be instructed, and our Representatives requested, to use all proper exertions to procure Competent engineers of the United States Corps, to make a survey of the Kaskaskia River, and to ascertain the probable amount [of] money that would be necessary requir[ed to] remove the obstacles to the navig[ation] of said River.
Resolved; that the Governor, be requested to forward a coppy of the foregoing resolution, to each of our Senators and Representatives in Congress

1Richard B. Servant introduced the resolution in the Senate on December 14, 1835, and the Senate immediate adopted it. On December 16, the House of Representatives adopted it. On December 28, the House and Senate delivered the resolution to Governor Joseph Duncan for his signature. On January 18, 1836, Representative John Reynolds and Senator John M. Robinson introduced the resolution to the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate respectively, both of which referred it to their Committee on Roads and Canals. In February 1837, the U.S. House passed a resolution ordering the Secretary of War to conduct a survey of the Kaskaskia River from Vandalia to its mouth near Chester.
