Resolved by the General Asembly of the State of Illinois that our senators be instructed and our Representatives in Congress requested to use their exertions to procure the pasage of a Law authorising Ports of Entry to be established (at) Beardstown on the Illinois River and at Darwin on the Wabash as allso at Galena in this State ^at Ottowa on the Illinois river, and at La Fayette on the Wabash, in Indiana and also at Galena in this state; & that the Governor be requested to forward a Copy of this Resolution to each of our Senators & Representatives in Congress.^1

1On December 3, 1834, William Gordon proposed the resolution in the House of Representatives. On December 4, the House referred the resolution to a select committee. On December 5, the select committee reported back the resolution with amendments, which the House approved before passing the resolution. The Senate concurred on December 8. On December 27, 1834, Illinois’ Senator John M. Robinson and Congressman Zadok Casey introduced the resolution in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, respectively. Each chamber referred the memorial to their Committee on Commerce.
