Durham, John

Durham was employed as a clerk in New York City from 1826 to 1835, at which point he moved west to Tazewell County, Illinois. In Illinois, Durham manufactured lumber and farmed, later establishing a carpet store in Peoria in 1857. Politically, Durham was a Whig and later a Republican. In 1835, he married Mary W. Gregory, and together they had eight children.
