Lee, James H.
James H. Lee plead guilty to the charge of grand larceny during the 1855 term of the Sangamon County Circuit Court for the theft of $26. He was sentenced to one year in the Illinois State Penitentiary and fined the costs of prosecution but was pardoned by Governor Joel A. Matteson in 1856 due to a petition signed by several prominent Springfield residents, including Abraham Lincoln.
