AN ACT for the benefit of the Sheriffs therein named.
1Said sheriffs allowed until the first day of June next to settle with county commissioners’ court.
Proviso.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the Sheriffs of the counties of Sangamon, Morgan, Washington, Franklin, Gal-

latin, Perry,2 St. Clair,3 Pope4 and Fayette, be, and are hereby allowed until the first Monday in June next, to settle with the
county commissioners’ courts of their respective counties, for the tax collected for and during the year one thousand
eight hundred and thirty-five: Provided, said Sheriffs shall pay over to the Treasurer of their respective counties, on the
first Monday of March next, all the money that may at that time have been collected
for the taxes aforesaid.5Approved, Jan. 31, 1835.
1John T. Stuart introduced HB 74, originally titled “A Bill for the Benefit of the Sheriff of Sangamon County,” in the House of Representatives on January 5, 1835. The House referred it to a select committee. The select committee
reported back the bill on January 7 with an amendment, in which the House concurred.
The House passed the bill as amended, amending the title so as to read “A Bill for
the Benefit of the Sheriffs Therein Named.” On January 7 the Senate, after considering several proposed amendments, tabled the bill and proposed amendments
until July 4. On January 8, the Senate re-considered its previous vote, senators
having withdrawn the proposed amendments thereto. The Senate amended the bill by
inserting “Perry County,” and tabled the bill and amendment. On January 23, the Senate took up the bill
and passed it as amended. On January 24, the House amended the Senate amendment by
adding the words “St. Clair” after the word “Perry.” The House concurred in the Senate amendments as amended.
On January 26, the Senate amended the House amendment by inserting the word “Pope” after the words “St. Clair.” The Senate concurred in the House amendments as amended.
The House concurred with the Senate amendment on January 28. On January 31, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
