By the Governor of the State of Illinois.
A PROCLAMATION .
WHEREAS the votes given for members of Congress in the several districts, at the August election, in the year of 1846, have been this day duly canvassed by the Governor, in the presence of the Secretary of State, Auditor of Public Accounts and State Treasurer, in pursuance of law, and the results duly ascertained.
Now, therefore, I, Thomas Ford, Governor of the State of Illinois, do hereby proclaim and make known that Robert Smith, was duly elected in the first district; John A McClernand, in the second district; Orlando B. Ficklin, in the third district; John Wentworth, in the fourth district; Stephen A. Douglass in the fifth district; Thomas J. Turner, in the sixth district; and Abraham Lincoln, in the seventh district.
IN testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of State to be affixed.
Done at the City of Springfield, this seventh day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand, eight hundred and forty-six.
