AN ACT declaring Fox river navigable.

In the counties of La Salle, Kane, and M’Henry, from Ottawa to northern boundary
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the Fox river, in the counties of La Salle, Kane, and McHenry, from the confluence with the Illinois river, at Ottawa, to the northern boundary of this State, is hereby declared a navigable stream, and shall be deemed and held a public highway.
This act shall take effect from and after its passage.
Approved, January 15th, 1840.
1On December 28, 1839, Senator William Weatherford introduced SB 42 in the Senate, and the Senate referred the bill to the Committee on Inland Navigation. On December 31, the Committee on Inland Navigation reported in favor of the bill with an amendment, and the Senate concurred in the amendment. On January 3, 1840, the Senate passed the bill. On January 10, the House of Representatives passed the bill. On January 15, 1840, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
