A Bill for an Act to locate a State Road from Canton to Knoxville
Sec. 1 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois Represented in the General Assembly that Henry Emry and Starling Turner of Fulton County and George Newman of Knox County be and are hereby appointed ^commissioners^ to view, lay out, locate, and survey a state road from a point on the Illinois River, at or near the mouth of Copper Creek, thence through
Utica,, Canton, ^by^ Middlegrove to Knoxville.
Sec. 2 Said Commissioners shall meet at Utica ^Canton^ on the first Monday in September next or within three months thereafter and after
being duly sworn before some Justice of the peace faithfully to to perform the duties required by this act shall proceed to survey, and locate said
Road as required by this Act haveing in view the conveniences of the inhabitants and the permanency thereof
Sec. 3 As soon as practable after said Road is located said Commissioners shall make or cause to be made a plat
of ^so much^ said Road as lies within the Respective Counties and transmit the same to the clerks

of the county commissioners courts of the respective counties through which the same
may pass which shall shall be filed and preserved in the office of said courts and said road shall be opened
and kept in repair as other state Roads are
Sec 4 The county commissioners courts of the respective counties through which said ^Road^ shall pass shall allow said commissioners and all others rendering service a reasonable
compensation to be paid out of their county treasuries in proportion to the distance
said road shall be located in the Same
Sec 5 That Ahira Sanders [and] Absalom Maxwell are appointed commissioners to view and Locate a state road and are required to meet
at Lewis town on the Last Monday in September next, or at such time thereafter as a majority of
them may agree upon, and after being duly sworn shall proceed to survey and Locate
a state road from Lewistown via Jackson Grove & Fair view to Knoxville on the suitable ground for a permanent road, doing as little injury to farms as the
public good will permit and if said road should intersect the state road Leading from
Canton to Knoxville, the said commissioners are not

required to Lay out said road farther than the point of intersection
Sec 6. Soon as practicable after said road shall be Located said commissioners shall
execute a map or plat of said so much of said road as lies within the respective counties through and transmit the same to the clerks of the county commissioners courts of the respective
counties through which the same may pass, which shall be filed in the offices of said
courts. said road shall be opened and kept in repair as other state roads are
Sec 7 The county commissioners courts of the respective counties through which the said

Sec 8 That James Estep of Sangamon county [and] Levi Sparks of Fulton are appointedcounty, and John Arthur J Foster of McDonough county are appointed to view, locate and survey a state road from Petersburgh by Stuarts land[in]g on the Illinois River by the way of Viena, & Vermont to McComb on intersect the State Road Leading from Havanna to McComb at or near the county line as the commissioners may think proper,

shall proceed to view, survey, and locate a state Road from Petersburgh by stuarts landing on the Illinois River, Vienna and Vermont to McComb haveing special regard to the permacy of said and doing as little injury to privat property as the public good will permit
Sec 9 as soon as practable after said [...?] commissioners have located said Road they shall execute a plat of said or so much
thereof as lies within the respective counties through which the same m^a^[y] pass and transmit the same to the Clerks of the County Commissioners courts respectively
whose duty it shall be to file the same in his office and said Road shall be opened
and kept in Repair as other state Roads are
Sec. 10th, The county commissioners courts of the respective counties through which said
road may pass shall allow said commissioners and others employed by them in the location
of said road a reasonable compensation to be paid out of said county1 treasuries in proportion to the distance said road is located in the same
