Petition of John Hines and Others to the Sangamon County Commissioners' Court, February
1836
February A.D. 1836—The Honorable The County Commissioner’s Court of Sangamon County Ills.—We your Petitioners, anxious that our public roads should be so improved by Bridges
and otherwise in ^a^ manner to render them comfortable and useful to the increasing wants of the Public—hereby
pray your Honors to Grant and apply so much of the County Revenue as will build a
suitable Bridge Over Rock Creek where the Lewiston and Springfield Road now crosses the same— We appeal the more confidently, from the fact that a comparative
small Sum will answer this demand of the Public Good— and that no work of the kind
and cost can subserve more interests and conveniences than the proposed one—
